Yellow Boat Minor Chord

I took this image when I heard a yellow chord in a minor key. To my surprise, it appeared a few years later in one of my dreams. I was watching a sunset with friends when I noticed, mixed in with the regular sailboats on the other side of the pond, this reflection. There it was, a two-dimensional rendering, afloat, pretending to be the real thing. No one noticed but me and when I next looked at its shimmering it winked back at me.

Jingle Jangle

A portrait of the five of me . . . with a small school of fish swimming right in front of my face(s). Actually, only the large one in the center has my face; the others are my interior selves no one else sees. . . . I hear Jingle, Jangle.

Gray eyes

All of the houses I photograph are people. The windows are eyes. Faster than thoughts can censor feelings, I personify what I photograph. Only secondarily do I think of this image as a portrait of a building. Its eyes are gray.

Fish In The Sky

If you look closely, do you notice anything unusual up high, on the left, near the mast? Yes, that’s a fish that was swimming so close to the surface of the water that it became a part of my picture, which is why I named it "Fish in the Sky." This image offers a good way to show you what synesthesia feels like, because to appreciate both the reflection and the fish, your focus must be in two places at the same time -- which is not possible. Yet how can you say the reflection is any less real than the fish? That which is perceived in peripheral vision is no less real than that which is the focus of the eye. My synesthesia similarly operates in peripheral vision.

Looking Up

I tend to personify everything I photograph. Windows are always eyes. In this case, I suppose the boat is lying down, because the eyes are looking up.
