Whenever I look at this image, I have the exact same reaction. Faster than my thoughts can censor my feelings, I see Miss Haversham with her spider webs and wedding veil.

For some reason, the undersides of bridges, combined with their reflections, create eyes or mouths for me that belong to the cities in which they reside. In this case, I see the "Mouth of Milan."

I see a portrait of a real inner
self embodied in the shimmering gold, a four-eyed edifice guarded
by the Pillar I, an anima peeking through the archway of
Persona that's cemented in synchronic time.
I hear a murmuring voce bassa that's
as distant as it's low. I hear the shadows turn to echoes that
begin to beat in me, urging my cells to give up boundaries, and at the moment of dissolution, I
click the shutter.

I see the party dresses of my childhood when I look at this image. I feel stiff white ruffles near my neck and crinoline skirts below my belted waist . . . I took this photograph in the town of Menemsha on Martha's Vineyard. The building is the Coast Guard Boathouse.

I photographed this reflection on a
piece of metal sculpture installed by a swimming pool in Florida. I instantly
fell in love with the faces
near the top of the image.
To find them, just rotate the image 45 degrees in
your imagination and let your inner eye do the rest. By the way, I
didn't see the small salamander crawling on top of the sculpture until
I enlarged the image. You can see it in the far left
lower corner of the image.
